When joke finally took notice of Richard she was shocked not
expecting to see Richard there , they both paused and starred at each other
Richard broke the silence and said long time no see joke. Joke was speechless
and felt ashamed she didn’t actually have anything to say. Richard wanted to
head back to his seat and joke took him by the arm, the look that he saw in her
eyes said it all that she was sorry. And then the words came out “am sorry and
I know how much you hate me right now for all the pains I put you through” and
she wished she never made that silly mistake.
Unknown to her Richard had seen
her with another man and he was expecting an explanation. Richard laughed
trying to prove that he was not hurt and he said am doing better than before.
He told her that he has gotten over what she did and that he had moved on a
long time ago. Joke felt hurt he could say that after she had apologized. With
rage and anger shown on her face she burst out shouting at Richard. She said
“how could you be this heartless “she said “I thought you were a nice, caring
and understanding person” in her mind she thought Richard would pity her and
forgive her. In other words she too was expecting Richard to apologize for his
rude remarks and behavior for treating her like she didn’t matter.
But Richard didn’t raise his voice while talking to her, he
told her not to make a scene in a public place but she didn’t care. She felt
like hitting him, but Richard stopped her from doing that. And he told her that
he never wanted to see her again.
Later in the club Richard went to femi to tell him that he
was leaving femi asked why but before femi could say anything Richard had gone.
And joke could not find Richard anywhere
Richard took a taxi home, when he got home he went to the
refrigerator to get a cool drink to calm his nerves down. He never thought he
would ever come across joke, he was so mad that he was kicking everything in
sight.
After all that kicking and knocking down of his apartment he
felt tired and broke down in tears. The beautiful yellowish ray of the sun
shone on Richard’s face making him aware that it was morning he felt bad yesterday.
But the next morning he was not sure of how he felt any more
Later on femi called, this time around he wanted Richard to
go out with him to a basketball court, the both of them alone. And Richard told
femi he was up for it because he wanted to talk to someone about the incident
at the club. on the basketball court femi and Richard were playing one on one ,
and femi asked about yesterday night and he said to Richard “why did you storm
out like that without saying anything else” that was the particular moment
Richard felt like pouring out everything . as he spoke to femi about the
situation femi felt cheated because he wished he was there to witness
everything that night.
Femi asked Richard for the next move and Richard said he
didn’t know? As he was about to say another word a call came through Richard’s
phone. Richard picked his phone even though he had no idea who was calling and
he didn’t recognize the number, to his surprise it was joke calling. Richard
never expected joke to call him but he wanted to give her a chance to explain
herself. Richard realized he did not let joke speak at the club about why
everything happened like that. Joke asked Richard if they could both have a
word in person and Richard asked where and she said at their usual spot in
town. Richard agreed to meet with joke and the time was set.
Joke was already at the spot she told Richard where she
would be at 4 pm waiting anxiously not long enough Richard drove in the parking
zone, joke felt like leaping for joy when she saw Richard but she composed
herself. What if Richard decides to change his mind those were the thoughts
running through her mind?
